The European Cultural Centre Italy invited me to present my work at the exhibition Personal Structures. This is part of the Venice Art Biennale and therefore a unique opportunity to reach a very large audience!
The exhibition will run from 23 April to 27 November 2022. In previous editions several well-known and admired artists participated like Marina Abramovich, Carl André, François Morellet and Yoko Ono.
Palazzo Bembo
Especially for this exhibition I created a new digital work, entitled Into the Rising Light and I want to present it, printed in large size inside of the Palazzo Bembo. This is a beautiful historic palace in the very heart of Venice. It is an iconic location near the water, not far from the famous Rialto Bridge.
Personal Structures – Reflections
The project
Into the Rising Light has become a captivating photographic kaleidoscope, based on photographs of a contemporary hotel complex in Denmark (CABINN Apartments). The image shows a densely built, dynamic place, full of rhythm, angles and reflections. This is an associative reference to the artist’s idea of Venice with streets full of hidden corners and the omnipresent reflections by light and water.
Renaissance
In response to the historical context of the exhibition space, the work also subtly refers to the past. The symmetrical composition, in central perspective, is a spatial representation developed in Renaissance Italy. The color palette is a tribute to Renaissance painters such as Giotto and Girolamo Marchesi.

Zusammen Let’s Go
BBA Gallery
May 14 – May 29, 2021
Köpenicker Str. 96 , Berlin
Germany
‘Zusammen Let’s Go’ is the title of a group exhibition at BBA Gallery in Berlin, Germany. It is part of ‘New Currents’, a series of exhibitions that features some of the gallery’s newfound artists. The exhibition highlights selections of fresh and exciting positions curated by Emily Dickinson.
I am happy that after > my digital solo exhibition for BBA Gallery last December, this time a physical exhibition is possible once again, together with a range of talented international artists.

Fire Escapism III
Depicted above and part of the exhibition is Fire Escapism III (2020). In this third of my series of New York fire escapes I isolated one section of the original building and by rotating and repeating a new architectural order is created. The series is meant as an uplifting collection to literally escape from the dreary (pandemic) reality into an imaginary world of rhythm, color and creative joy.

In April 2021 an exciting project was finalized in Thousand Oaks, California. For an office building I created two large compositions installed in the main area staircase and in one of the corridors. In this series you can see my compositions and some views of the installation.

The photographic works installed are “MoMA Labyrinth II” and “Sunny Side II”. Both are based on the similarly entitled “MoMA Labyrinth” (photographed at the MoMA in New York) and “Sunny Side” (shot in Rotterdam), available as limited edition prints at Saatchi Art.

Introduction by BBA Gallery
Introducing Paul Brouns with his first online exclusive show with BBA Gallery for Artsy. Brouns found his voice by capturing architecture. The urban landscape proved to be an ideal playground for finding geometrical elements to use in his compositions.
Paul Brouns (1967) is a Dutch photographing artist that lives and works near Amsterdam. Observing the urban world, he is attracted by the abstract, rhythmic poetry of buildings and of façades in particular. He clearly concentrates only on particular elements of architecture, such as the rhythm of windows and the colour of wall surfaces.
